Bayesian detection of the fovea in eye fundus angiographies

چکیده
This paper is concerned with the automatic detection of the avascular foveal zone (fovea), in eye fundus angiographies. Fluorescein angiography is used in ophthalmic practice to evaluate vascular retinopathies and choroidopathies: sodium ̄uorescein is injected in the arm's cubital vein of the patient and its distribution along retinal vessels at certain times is observed. The proposed methodology is based on Bayesian statistical methods that allow to incorporate the previous knowledge about the eye fundus in the model. The contour of the fovea is modeled by means of a unidimensional Markov chain and the observed intensities are assumed Gaussian and statistically independent between pixels. Two approximations are used in order to estimate the model's parameters: Empirical and Fully Bayesian. Two algorithms have been used in order to estimate the fovea contour: Simulated Annealing (SA) and Iterated Conditional Modes (ICM). This procedure is applied to dierent cases of diabetic retinopathy and vein occlusions. Ó 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Fovea center detection based on the retina anatomy and mathematical morphology
In this work, we present a new fovea center detection method for color eye fundus images. This method is based on known anatomical constraints on the relative locations of retina structures, and mathematical morphology. The detection of this anatomical feature is a prerequisite for the computer aided diagnosis of several retinal diseases, such as Diabetic Macular Edema. The proposed method is a...

A 31‐year‐old healthy man presented with sudden onset visual field defect in his left eye for 2 days. The best‐corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 20/20 in the right eye and 20/40 in the left eye. Fundus examination of the left eye revealed a superior hemi‐central retinal artery occlusion [Figure 1a], sparing the fovea with a white embolus at the arterial bifurcation on the optic nerve head. The...

Diabetic macular edema (DME) is an eye disease that belongs to diabetic retinopathy which leads to vision loss. DME, which is a swelling in the macular region of eye is a common vision problem seen in diabetic patients.Hard exudates (bright lesions)in the fundus image indicates the presence of DME. When blood vessels in retina of diabetic patient is begin to leak into the macula region of eye l...

PURPOSE To evaluate fundus photographic image analysis combining automated detection of red lesions, bright lesions, and image quality as a means of identifying treatment-requiring diabetic retinopathy in a screening population of diabetic patients. METHODS This was a retrospective cross-sectional study of 106 patients from a diabetic retinopathy screening clinic referred for photocoagulation...
متن کاملAutomatic Detection of Microaneurysms in Color Fundus Images using a Local Radon Transform Method
Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most serious and most frequent eye diseases in the world and the most common cause of blindness in adults between 20 and 60 years of age. Following 15 years of diabetes, about 2% of the diabetic patients are blind and 10% suffer from vision impairment due to DR complications. This paper addresses the automatic detection of microaneurysms (MA...
